Over 24,000 cops deployed in Mumbai on last day of Ganpati Puja festivities

Security has been heightened in Mumbai in view of Ganpati Visarjan in the city, marking the 10th and final day of the festivities. Over 24,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city for the seamless movement of vehicles and to prevent any untoward incidents, a police official said.
Drone surveillance will be in place at important immersion sites such as Girgaon Chowpatty, Dadar, Bandra, Juhu, Versova, Powai Lake, and Madh Island, PTI reported, quoting the official.
Elaborate security arrangements are also in place for the Eid-e-Milad procession, that has been pushed to Wednesday, to maintain law and order in the city.
Top Mumbai Police officer Satyanarayan Choudhary stated that over 24,000 police personnel, including nine additional commissioners of police, 40 deputy commissioners of police, and 56 assistant commissioners of police will be deployed to maintain law and order.
He stated that patrolling mobile squads for women’s safety will also be deployed, adding that over 10,000 CCTVs have been installed across the city for better surveillance.
“There is CCTV surveillance as well. To facilitate vehicular movement, the Eastern Expressway is declared as a green corridor that will connect the western and eastern suburbs. There are 12 railway bridges where overcrowding must be avoided, since the structure is slightly weak. Central and Western railways have said these are old, and their condition is such that they wish to appeal and have travelling restrictions on certain bridges. To ensure seamless connectivity for emergency movement for ambulances or for those who want to reach the airport, a green corridor has been identified,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumbhare.
The official said that no parking zones had been identified.
He stated action would be taken against those found guilty of causing noise pollution during the festivities.
